SCREEN RECORDING GUIDE

Why a screen recording has no sound and how to fix it

SHORT ANSWER: A silent screen recording usually has one of four causes: no audio source was selected, microphone permission was unavailable, Android's device-audio requirements were not met, or the source app blocked capture. Test a short recording with a known sound source, check the saved file in another player and change one setting at a time.

First identify which sound is missing

Microphone sound and device sound come from different inputs. If narration is missing but the game can be heard, check microphone selection, permission, mute state and whether another app is using the microphone. If narration works but the app is silent, investigate device-audio support and the source app's capture policy.

Play the result in a second trusted player before changing recorder settings. A recording can contain an audio track that one player cannot decode, and that is a playback problem rather than a capture problem.

  • Nothing is audible: confirm that an audio mode was selected before recording.
  • Only voice is audible: the source app may block internal-audio capture.
  • Only app sound is audible: confirm microphone selection and permission.
  • Sound works elsewhere: inspect the player's audio-track and codec support.

Android device audio has platform rules

Android's AudioPlaybackCapture path starts with Android 10. The source must use an eligible audio usage, permit capture and run in the same user profile. A banking app, call app, protected stream or privacy-sensitive service can deny capture. Vidorec cannot and should not bypass that decision.

Use a short test with a normal game or local media app. If that works but the target stays silent, the target's policy is the likely cause. Microphone narration may be an alternative when recording is lawful and appropriate.

A clean troubleshooting order

Restart with automatic quality, choose one audio source and record ten seconds. Confirm Android or iOS permissions, disconnect unusual Bluetooth routes, and listen through the phone speaker and headphones. Add mixed audio only after each source works alone.

  • Check the audio mode before pressing record.
  • Confirm microphone access only if the microphone is needed.
  • Test a known capturable source on Android 10 or newer.
  • Open the saved file in another player.
  • Avoid repeatedly raising bitrate or resolution; they do not unlock blocked audio.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Why is game sound missing but my voice is present?

The game may block playback capture, use an ineligible audio category or run on an Android version below 10. Microphone capture is independent, so voice can still be present.

Does higher video quality fix missing sound?

No. Resolution, frame rate and video bitrate do not change an app's audio-capture policy.

Can Vidorec force protected audio to record?

No. Operating-system and source-app privacy restrictions are authoritative and are not bypassed.
